The Temptation of Elminster is the third novel in Ed Greenwood's Elminster Series, published in 1998. The fantasy novel is set in the Forgotten Realms world and follows a young Elminster as he emerges from a tomb after being trapped for years. He is forced to rely on his wits while seeking guidance from Mystra, but is instead drawn into a confrontation with the Lady of Shadows.
Plot: After the fall of the elven city of Myth Drannor, Elminster emerges from a tomb to serve new masters. Themes: The novel explores themes of temptation, power, and the choices an individual makes. Elminster faces a "realm-shaking confrontation" where he must make a crucial decision that will change the world forever.
Series: It is the third book in The Elminster Series, following Elminster: The Making of a Mage and Elminster in Myth Drannor.
Publication: The book was first published in hardcover in December 1998 and in paperback in November 1999.
