The Prince and the Pauper is a novel by Mark Twain, first published in 1881, that tells the story of two young boys who look remarkably alike: Prince Edward Tudor, the heir to the English throne, and Tom Canty, a poor boy from the London slums. They decide to switch places, leading to a series of adventures and misadventures as each experiences the other's vastly different life.
