The High White Forest is a 1964 war novel by Canadian journalist and author Ralph Allen. The story follows Canadian, American, and German soldiers during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. 
About the plot
The novel uses a three-part narrative, focusing on an American squad, a Canadian squad, and a group of Nazi commandos. 
The Nazi soldiers are specially trained to pose as American troops to infiltrate the Allied lines and abduct General Eisenhower.
As the Battle of the Bulge rages, the front lines dissolve into chaos, leaving all three groups to face a brutal and confusing conflict.
The story explores the experiences of the different characters and culminates in a display of "high irony".
