Tangled Webs is the second novel in Elaine Cunningham's Starlight & Shadows series, set in the Forgotten Realms world. The book follows the dark elf Liriel Baenre and her companion Fyodor as they sail the seas, pursued by enemies and a powerful drow priestess. Liriel must confront her drow nature and the temptations of power, even from the goddess Lolth, as she and Fyodor face a devastating invasion force. 
Plot summary
The journey: Liriel and Fyodor are on a quest to Ruathym aboard a pirate ship, the Elfmaid. 
Pursuit: They are pursued by enemies who join forces with the enemies of Ruathym to form a large invasion force. 
Divine intrigue: The spider goddess Lolth is intrigued by Liriel and the chaos surrounding her. 
Confrontation: Liriel must decide whether to embrace her drow nature and the power offered by Lolth to protect what she holds dear. 
Climax: Liriel battles a drow banshee and briefly becomes an avatar of Lolth before renouncing her. She also gains control over Fyodor's berserker rages. 
Next step: The quest continues as they must bring the Windwalker amulet to Rashemen.
