Dragonflight is the first novel in Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series, published in 1968. It tells the story of Lessa, an outcast who forms a telepathic bond with a queen dragon, and F'lar, a dragonrider, as they work to save the world of Pern from a deadly, falling spore called Thread. The novel was a fix-up of two earlier novellas and made McCaffrey the first woman to win both a Hugo and a Nebula Award.
